Operation Christmas Child

Samaritan’ Purse Operation Christmas Child’s mission is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children.  The program delivers “Shoeboxes” of gifts to children in impoverished areas around the world.  Along with the box the children are given a copy of “The Greatest Gift of All” booklet.  It explains the story of Christ and salvation through him.

The shoeboxes are packed with school supplies, toys, clothing items and hard candy.  The boxes are then brought to Central in October and early November.  In past years we delivered 109 boxes to a church in Bristol who in turns packs the area donations for transport to the home office of Samaritan’s Purse in Boone, NC.  We also have a group of women from the church who go to Boone to help with further packing of the boxes.

Last year, a total of 82 shoeboxes were donated to the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Shoebox Program. That translates into 82 children receiving toys, school supplies, hygiene items and candy which is probably the only gifts the children will receive for Christmas. The shoeboxes that Central donated will go to children in Africa. Special thanks to those who packed boxes or those that asked the Wednesday night students to pack boxes for them.
